Making a Plan When You Get an Eviction Notice

........................................................

There are a number of reasons why your landlord may choose to do an eviction against you. Sometimes this is because you are late on your rent, usually for a few months, and they want to get you out of there so they can find a good, paying tenant to take the place instead. Sometimes it is because you are breaking some other part of your lease, such as having a pet in a non-pet friendly area or being too loud and disturbing the neighbors. No matter the reason that you see the eviction notice on your door, it is important to come up with a plan on how to get it better.

Keep in mind here that the whole process for an eviction can be a long one. This is part of why the landlord doesn’t want to even start the process and will usually be open to working with you to avoid problems in the first place. Most states will not allow the landlord to just evict the tenant at a moment’s notice and you will have some time to get your affairs in order during the process.

If you are not able to work with the landlord and you find that you must move out, then you will need to come up with a plan and think things through as quickly as possible. Some of the things that you need to think about include:

# Where you are going to live now. It is much harder to find a new apartment once you have been evicted, no matter the reason, because the new landlord does not want to deal with it either.

# Finding a storage unit for your items while you figure things out.

# Looking at your finances to get things in order.

No matter what you need to do to get organized and ready at this time, you do not want to leave this until the last minute. The more time that you give yourself to plan things out during all of this, the better off you will be too.
